Mariners Red Sox Opening Weekend Series Discussion.

Thursday was opening day for the Mariners and myself and many other fans were excited to see what the new look Mariners would bring to the ball park. The team had made an effort to offload players prone to striking out over the offseason in order to bring in players that can control the zone, get on base, and put balls in play. All of these things are supposed to help a team score more runs. Luis Castillo was the opening day starter and everyone thought this would be a game where the Mariners would be able to score some runs while the starter didn't need as much support as the team was giving him. This didn't happen.  The Mariners gave up 6 runs to the Red Sox while Castillo struggled with control for the game. He would leave the game with the loss. Seattle would end up scoring 4 runs on 8 hits over the course of the game. Boston scored 6 on 11 hits. With the struggles of the starter this wouldn't be a huge disappointment if not for the amount of strikeouts the offense had...

Stage Cautions Hurt the Product

The NASCAR/Indycar double header at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road course led to some of the most exciting racing NASCAR has seen in the last several years on a road course. The Indycar race showed what a road course race with only natural cautions could lead to. It led to a driver on what seemed like the wrong strategy after being last at the end of the first lap storm through the field to win the race in Scott Dixon. After watching that race, I was excited for the cup series race the following day because there would be no stage cautions.             The Xfinity series race was exciting but had the issue of a lighting delay for 45 minutes that led to NASCAR needing to make strange decisions at the end of the race in order to actually finish it. The last few laps of that race had people driving off track and hitting things but did not feature a caution becau...

ARCA Needs More Competiveness

On August 11, 2023, the ARCA Menards Series raced at Indianapolis Raceway Park, a .688-mile racetrack that takes between 23 and 24 seconds to complete a lap. By the time the leader had crossed the start/finish line for the tenth lap there were already five cards one lap down. These cars were lapping over two seconds slower than the leader and there were more cars that would be a lap down shortly after. This is a problem in a field that consisted of only 24 cars because it shows that most of the cars that show up have no chance of winning.             Field fillers have been a part of stock car racing for most of the history of the sport, but this is normally in a field that contains 40 or more cars. In a 24-car field, there should not be over ten cars a lap down by the 20 th lap like there were during this race because it shows that equipment is the biggest...

Censorship leads to Violence

Censorship and forcing people to use language in a way that they want them to is a central part of how fascist governments get and maintain power. Often, these governments will censor things in the name of protecting children as a cover for their more sinister goals. In The Man in the High Castle, Philip K. Dick shows the fascist German government that was victorious in the second World War to ensure that they maintain their power over the people in the conquered lands. In the real world, the allies defeated the fascists during the Second World War, in this novel the opposite is true and in the alternate history, a man has authored a novel about the alternate history that is the one we know. The fascist government must do everything they can to suppress this book because if people were to read it, they would see the horrors the Nazis perpetuated and continued to perpetuate. The Grasshopper Lies Heavy is a fictional alternate history in this universe that shows the world as most ...

Quick Thoughts on Noah Gragson Supsension

This weekend, NASCAR driver Noah Gragson was suspended by his team, Legacy Motor Club, as well as the sanctioning body after liking a racist meme on Instagram in relation to the 2020 death of George Floyd. Journalist Daniel Mcfadin was the first person to uncover the like that Gragson left on the meme and broke the story. This has led to people being angry with him because they believe he ruined the career of Gragson by exposing his poor behavior. NASCAR has made massive strides for diversity and inclusion, but the fan base is still reluctant to change their views on people who are not white men.             It was the right decision to suspend Gragson for his actions because race teams and the sanctioning body do not wish to be associated with racism as they work to remove the association of auto racing with racism. It is likely that he will end up not being allow...

Jerry Springer is Dead. He Tried to Ruin Trans People

Jerry Springer, the former mayor of Cincinnati, Ohio, host of The Jerry Springer Show and Judge Jerry Springer, and the man responsible for getting The Steve Wilkos Show its start has died today, April 27, 2023, and many trans individuals will be spending the rest of the day celebrating! During his time on television, Jerry Springer caused harm to trans people by using them as the punchline of many jokes and making many of his shows center around the idea that trans women are “traps” meaning people that are men who look like women in a way to trap a man into having “gay” sex with them. During my childhood, my father would often force me to watch The Jerry Springer Show after school and that was the only trans representation I had until I was an adult. Being a trans woman that didn’t start transitioning until age 26, I blame Springer for most of that and believe it is fine to speak ill of the dead in this case beca...

I Want to Know! Why use APA or MLA?

I hate parenthetical citations; they annoy me, and I find that the people who think they are good for the flow of reading do not have any idea how distracting they are. If there is a sentence that needs a citation putting it in parentheses makes the reader not move through the document in an efficient manner. If the citation is with a footnote or end note it does not distract the reader and if the reader chooses to, they can look at the note to see where this information came from. They can also see through annotations at the bottom of the page whether the source is reliable or just valuable to the reader, and not reliable .   This is also the simplest way to cite information that still gives people all the information they need and ensures that the author is not stealing from the source material. There seems to be no reason for people to use anything other than the Chicago Manual of Style for their citations and I am begging people who choose to use the other formats to ex...
